Evening all! I hope everyone is staying safe and in good health. This month has been another strange one. I've lost compete track of what time it is, what day it is and i'm surprised I remembered it was this time of the month again! But here we are. It's time to announce April's van of the month!!
I've been busy enjoying all of your emails and looking at some awesome pictures of all your van's. This months entries left me in a dilemma, I think I've changed my mind about 20 times today but here it is......
Congratulations Dan Hemming!
.......Back in September 2018, I tagged along with my sister in law and her boyfriend who had recently bought a T5, we went to the 1st dubs collective party in the park weekend. It rained all weekend and we were in a tent but had one of the best weekends I can remember despite the weather being awful all weekend.
I was instantly hooked seeing all the vans around us, reminiscing of my days in my early twenties when I had my MK2 Jetta gti and MK3 Golf gti so started frantically scouring Gumtree, Autotrader and eBay looking at T5’s. We were supposed to be buying a new car for my wife but i somehow convinced her to let me get a van instead. But it needed to be camper converted, have a pop top for the kids and under £10k. After realising my budget wouldn’t stretch to meet all the requirements, if I was going to get a T5, I turned my attention to the T4.
I finally found the van in question that ticked all the boxes. The minute I got it back home I started scouring Insta for inspiration already knowing I wanted it lowered, new wheels etc etc. The first van I saw was a picture of Shane Phillips slammed T4 and that was that, I knew which direction I was going.
With help from the Scarface LowRider page in particular I have a very comfortable and driveable van sitting on 17” banded steels, 5” Faulkner’s and GMAX short shocks with Shane’s relocation plates, shortened drop links and to say I’m pleased is an understatement. The VDUB world has taken me back to my youth spending weekends on the drive modding the van but with the added bonus of weekends away making new friends and new memories.
I can’t believe I ever wanted a T5 after discovering how cool T4’s are and in my opinion the best vans for cool retro looks but with relatively reliable modern features but still allowing you to do a lot of the work yourself on the driveway if you want.
